Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749-1832, is considered one of the most influential writers and thinkers in German and Western culture. His works span the fields of literature, theology, humanism and science and are a major source of inspiration in music, drama, poetry and philosophy. He also served as the Privy Councilor of the Duchy of Wiemar.
