Here in Utah, the GRP staff was honored to teach our first course at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Utah. Osher is part of the continuing education programs at the U. for those ages 50 or better.
We had a small class of 7 people, which made for lively discussions about “Does the Golden Rule Still Matter?”
Throughout this 6-week course, we were able to discuss and practice compassion, kindness, and peace by living the universal principle of the Golden Rule “treat others as you want to be treated”. We explored and discussed what our moral obligations are to each other when it comes to complicated current social issues like poverty and homelessness, immigration, and health care, and discussed what could these issues look if we applied the Golden Rule.
We were inspired by our students and their experiences, by our guests and their stories, and by the thoughts and ideas that were expressed as we unfolded and dove deep into these issues. We saw how we can create impacts if we desire, and we created action plans to put to practice the Golden Rule.
We will host a new class in Spring Term, every Wednesday starting on March 28 and running until May 2, 2018.
